Research

At Lazarus AI, our research is grounded in a simple belief: AI systems should be reliable, explainable, and built to perform in the real world. We focus on advancing applied intelligence through rigorous experimentation, open collaboration, and continuous validation.

Principles

Pushing the Envelope

We pursue advances that extend the boundaries of what AI systems can reliably achieve. Our work is grounded in closing the gap between experimental breakthroughs and production-grade intelligence.

Democratizing AI Access

We focus on making advanced AI attainable, not exclusive. By translating cutting-edge research into open source code, we make key innovations broadly available.

Breaking Barriers

We target the friction points others work around. From model limitations to governance constraints, our research is focused on eliminating the barriers that keep AI from becoming reliable infrastructure.

Meet the Team

Eric Hartford
Chief Scientist
Eric is a pioneer in open-source AI and cognitive architecture known for developing the "Dolphin" and "Samantha" model series. He leads Lazarus AI's research strategy with a focus on model steerability and maximizing reasoning capabilities by mitigating artificial constraints.
Youssef Fadhloun
ML Engineer
Youssef holds a M.S. in Embedded Telecommunications, specializing in IoT and AI, from the National Engineering School of Sousse. He was active on Zindi from 2020 to 2022 where he achieved multiple top placements and a peak global ranking of #4 among more than 100,000+ AI builders.
Jorge Garcia
Data Engineer
Jorge began his career at Sandia National Laboratories, applying AI/ML to seismology and earthquake monitoring. At Lazarus, he works on evaluation orchestration on industry-relevant datasets that drive model selection and platform development, as well as implementing new methodologies for processing data to enhance performance.
Matt Owen
ML Engineering Manager
Matt leads the AI/ML Engineering team at Lazarus, taking cutting-edge research from the lab into the software stack, with a focus on fine-tuning, evaluating, and applying privacy-focused LLMs. He brings 20 years of practical experience taking research ideas from concept to living, breathing product, across applied ML, distributed systems, and statistical programming.
Rob O'Callahan
Applied AI Researcher
Rob built an early career in bioinformatics before transitioning to software engineering, eventually joining Lazarus AI in November 2025. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and an M.S. from Rice University.
